Dats how you make a first impression!!!!

Recommended Posts

hi forum!

are control arm interchangeable between different Z year models?

my story goes...

i bought my Z last may.

i got it from a 50yish yr old drunk dude, it was just 5pm and he was already drunk heheh

the car was all good, the transmission and engine didnt have any problem except for rust but i didnt mind

i did a test drive around their block and it was fine so payed for it

when i was driving back home i was driving around 65-70mph

and my left rear wheel came off!!!!

it was kinda funny when i remember it :)

i saw my back wheel pass me, sparks where flying everywhere!!

my wheel even jumped over the freeways divider and went to the opposite lane, (luckily my renegade wheel didnt cause any accident)

my car was skidding for atleast 20 meters i think.

then it stopped in the freeways emergency lane. and i was unharmed! thank you God!! :)

but i lost my drum brakes and my wheel, and all my lower control arm got damage so badly

but the car didnt hit anything.

so yeah thats my story with my Z!! and im proud of it!!!

my Z really knows how to leave an impression :)

hehehhe

i had a front wheel come almost completely off (only 1 stripped lugnut held it,the other 3 snapped ) off my '73 180b(610) 4 door while i was driving thru Selwood down 17th,back in the day. the car had been wrecked, and wasn't quite fixed yet,it needed a new strut. it ate front tires like m&m's! i got so used to driving through a tire blowout, that it seemed almost like the car was supposed to drive that way. anyway, i managed to kinda slide/coast it up into a parking lot of what was then a restaurant of some kind. the manager was kinda a dick about the whole thing, but didn't have the car towed, and i came back the next day, replaced all 4 lug studs and drove it home, and for about 6 more months before i finally parked, then eventually sold the car. i've been looking for another one to replace it for years! good luck getting yours fixed!

MY experience was with a Cutlass. Was rolling down hill and when I stepped on it it revved, no drive at all. Pulled over and got a friend to pull my into his yard with a chain. On the way the wheel and the axle slid out to the side and hopped end over end past me. By them I was past caring and just laughed.

(fucking GM 'C' clip rear ends!!!)

I went to help a buddy move his car to his new place.

"Hey, are the wheels bolted on?"

"Psh, yeah... are you serious?"

"Yeah, I don't wanna get goin' down the road and have a wheel come off."

"Yeah man, they're on tight"

Got two blocks down and see smoke in the rear view. We pull over and he's missing a wheel <_< Luckily, we hadn't gotten far and the lugs and wheel were easy to find..

Every time I tow a car now, regardless of what the person says, I check and make sure the wheels are on there. Most people feel their intelligence is insulted. Better theirs than mine.

My father has a rather beater ass 1966 mustang. But I modded the front suspension with a 1 inch sway bar, strut bar and lowering springs. Well this tuner tried to race him and he managed to cut him off into the on ramp! The Honda was ahead for a second when then the Honda tires fell off. The Honda crashed into the rail and fell off the other side. Father kept on going victorious....

I've never had a wheel come off but I had a VW Beetle once where I noticed a thump, thump, thump each time I came to a stop. After about a mile in town I stopped and started poking around. I found the right front wheel loose and fixed it on the spot.

The goofy car was my '65 Dart. Chrysler, in their infinite wisdom, thought it should be equipped with 13 inch wheels. The right front tire never lasted long enough to wear out (slant 6.) Some summer day I'd be flying down the freeway at 70 mph and hear a bang. Clearly someone had a blowout, so I would look around for someone pulling over. After 10 seconds or so of looking and seeing no one I would head over to the right side of the road. As I decelerate on the shoulder the front would start thumping around 40 mph. It was me again -- I got good at changing a tire on the side of the freeway. The weird thing, the car had absolutely no reaction to a blowout of the right front tire. I could take my hands off the wheel and keep going strait down the road. I really had to look around for someone else swerving or pulling off the road to figure out it wasn't someone else.

17 years old ... just finished installing a 396/Muncie 4-speed into my 1957 Chevy Wagon ... put on my new killer Cragar SS wheels with stock lug nuts  . Went for a spin and as I was going through an underpass I thought I'd like to hear how the new dual exhaust with Thrush mufflers sounded so I downshifted to second and tried to dent the firewall with my right foot. Right rear wheel flys off and richochets off the wall ... I do a complete 360 and come to a stop ... tire is still bouncing around ... jumps up and lands and stops on my hood.

Bought new correct lug nuts and replaced drivers seat.

fixed....

I had an axle come out of an olds while being towed. I was driving along and the motor just revved with no connection to the rear wheels. The diff must have let go. The C clip must have been damaged.
