Craig
Ok my name is Craig, I am in so-cal, victorville. In high school my first truck was a 74 620, it was red, lowered with some mods. I didnt do any of them. i have been waiting 10 years to get another on and i just got it last week. I have alot of big plans for her, well for now her name will be "the black flag". I found her on my way to work, i ask to buy it but the lady said it was her dads and couldnt part with it. he passed 10 years ago and its been parked. she called me a few days later and asked what i would give. So now i have the truck for 400. somone started pulling it apart, so ill be doing a complete rebuild. ill post picts whenever i have a question or just to show my updates. I have been reading the posts here and it seems like a great community. well lets get to the truck.... I am not sure what the deal is with the date on the pict i took them today. Joss
Must be pretty dry out there, it's dustier than a barn find. Awesome. Can't really tell on this screen, but is the intake just hanging there? I hope you did that and it hasn't been sitting like that. Quote Link to comment
Craig
Joss, I live in the Mojave desert, it is very dry and hot. Yes the intake is hanging off along with everything else. I think the truck had a blown head gasket, they pulled it apart then decided not to do it, but who knows. Skunk, I have many plans first off i am pulling the engine and rebuilding it. other things i want to do are; 3-link the rear, i want to lay the frame with bags, build a 1 peice fiberglass front end that tilts like the vw bug style, new sterio, fiberglass the cracked part of the dash, i will keep the bench seat do to my size, i really want to get a 5 speed trans for it, headers. I hope to have it on the rd in the next 3 months, it would be sooner but i have 6 kids work and go to school full time, so i am short on time. ill have pict of the parts i pulled so far tonight. pharouh
I wanna see someone do a single piece front end that's hinged like an old Spitfire. Why not! It can be done and in steel. It's not that heavy. Quote Link to comment
Craig
that is a nice looking truck. I want my cab on the ground with my front like that and my bed tilted too. Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
I was at a car show yesterday and there was a 1969 chevy truck that had a tilt all stock steel front end. What was really unique about the front end was the hood would still open like it came from the factory. Really well done. Next time I see the truck I will get pictures. Quote Link to comment
Joss
It can be done and in steel. It's not that heavy. Thanks for sharing that! May do it if I get this 2dr 510, Quote Link to comment

pharouh
Thanks! Wish I still had it. That was around 1981-2. Quote Link to comment
Roadracer Al
A buddy of mine lives in Apple Valley. We go SuMo racing out at Grange whenever I can get down there. I'd start by budgeting for a complete motor rehab - maybe not a rebuild, but you absolutely MUST get inside the motor and clean that dust out. Don't even turn it over by hand before you get it cleaned up!!! Yeah, that tilt-front is bitchin! Quote Link to comment
datsun dreamer
Welcome and nice find! Good to see another 620 in the high desert! Cant wait to see this one cruising down bear valley!! Quote Link to comment

Craig
Datsun Dreamer The plan is to have it on the road by Oct, if you do see it around it will look the same as it does now. I planed on having alot more done by now but with my daughter due in Aug I have been real busy. Just this past sat I pulled a A87 from the junkyard off 395.(will post picts soon) it looks good. Have you seen anymore 620s around that are parting out or at the junk yard? that one I found has alot of good parts just nothing I need now. do you know anyone around here that can rebuild my carb. I would do it just real short on time I work full time and go to school full time. I am new to this datsun stuff so any and all help i can get will be great. Quote Link to comment
datsun dreamer
Craig, Theirs a guy in adelanto named ruben that is a mechanic and has about four 620's. He rebuilds his own 620's and knows these trucks inside n out, i lost his number but he does do local shows from time to time so if i c him i will let him know about carb work. I dont know anyone thats parting out at the time, but their are alot of local guys on this site that may have alot of spare parts if you post in the classifieds section and always willing to help out! If you can try and make it to the Inland empire Datsun/JDM meet every third sat of the month..Lot of cool guys and great food!! Quote Link to comment
dat620
welcome home, and that is the best truck to score, can not go wrong with a 620, i can get you all new seals, front windshield, door jam seals, rear windshield, let me know, i also stock and sell all types of 620 parts, get me a pm and list and i will let you know what we can do for you, have fun...tom Quote Link to comment
Guest DatsuNoob
Nice little truck you got there Craig. Looks like a solid start. Probably not a whole lotta rust either being in the desert too. Front tilts IMO opinion look much cooler than they are to use. Have you ever owned a car with one before? They're a pain in the ass lol. I hated working on anything on the front of the motor back when I had the Z280. Not being a naysayer, again I think they look cool as shit, just not very practical IMO. I honestly wqnted to do one on my 620 using 280 hood hinges, but it didnt work out the way I planned because the front area behind the core support is pretty shallow and wouldn't allow them to work without a bunch of hacking, so I scrapped the idea. pharouh
You're right about the tilt front ends. They do look cool.but on mine you had to undo six dzus fasteners to open the hood. And closing it,you had to line them up again. They weren't my idea, but the guy who did the finish body work put them on. Plus you had to be careful when you were working on the engine .The bottom of the fender was right there ready to bang you on the head. Speaking from experience,I wouldn't do it again. skunk
but then again were'nt you saying you wanted to do it so you could open the hood the normal way to. Quote Link to comment
Craig
Thank you all for your opinions, I do take them in. As far as the rust goes the only spot I can find is on the drivers fender, along with a ton of bondo. First off I am workin on my heads they are almost done, I have ordered a head gasket set and a carb kit. I have on order a timing chain and a water pump. Once its running ill need a fender, drivers door, windshield, all the door and window rubbers. Ill be looking to get these items around January. Also all stock items I don't need ill post for sale or trade on here. So far this community is great, I just need to find a group that's is around here to join as well. Quote Link to comment
Craig
Ok my fellow Ratsun's its been a while, and like I have said I couldent do much untill my daughter was born, here she is we call her MJ Ok now back to the truck, I have striped it down and now getting ready to paint it, I will be using the rust-olium write up that i seen on this site, just the only thing different is that I will spray it on, and not roll it. I did a little work on the frame, I wired brushed it them painted it, befor and after picts and for now I will be running some 14in stockers, untill I can get the 5-star titans that I want, I have sanded the rim and painted it, then cleaned the dishes and rings, does anyone have 1 ring they can part with? before and after More picts soon to come, my wife wants my truck to be on the road by the end of oct.
