Imagine...if there were no Datsuns

This is a story about my trip to Japan last summer.

 

I went to Japan, to three major cities. In nine days I had lots of car and train travel. I saw not one Datsun. The end.

The good news was that one of the first cars I saw (on the train from the airport) was a C10 skyline coupe driving along a dirt road ... at sunset, it was like vision in a dream... I saw lots of skylines. In fact, every time I heard hot rod sounds, turn to look, yep it was a skyline. They are like the Chevelles used to be over here.

Wow that story does have a good ending :) and we will just imagine all the datsuns are in garages. right right.....

just think about all those skyline engines... in 1-2 years the RB's will be on their way to the USA on boats. :D

RB25DET in my Fairlady Z with a big T4 turbo hanging off the left side... 3.5" exhaust all the way out... straight pipe it!

Yeah, there is a 510 with an RB in it.

 

In Japan though I saw no Datsuns, everybody had a "datsun story", usually with a hand-motion indicating "crushing". I am not making this up.

 

A taxi driver in Narita told me there was a girl there that has a Datsun 1200.

ya I used to have an RB20ET but I sold it to double my money

I should have at least 4x my money but all the idiots on eBay weren't bidding that week!!! Either that or I started it out too low and for some reason they figured it must be a bad engine???

 

it was only a SOHC one anyway... good riddens

hello, I got featured along with Gordon Glassgow (later, I think) in a Japanese restoration magazine for classic cars called: Old Timer. It featured individuals who enjoyed restoration of old Japanese cars, mostly Japanese folks. They cannot afford to license the vintage cars, but DO trailer them to shows often, where they can run them but not really drive them. They are, yes, kept locked in garages and there are qutie a few collectors and many regular folks who restore the cars. ok, nuf for now, Tana

Cool. Was it this issue? This one had a Datsun Roadster featured.

 

I've seen Old Timer on rare occasion at Kinokuniya bookstore downtown Seattle. Occasionally they have a feature on a Datsun 1200.

god that is a very sad story, but like bleach said, tho's rb's will be comming to america soon! besides, we're americans.. we dont crush cars unless they're totaled.. usualy anyways.. an with datsuns.. its either let it sit for YEARS AN YEARS until someone offers to buy it.. or ya sell it off cheap to someone who wants it.. an tho the shells maybe crushed now and then but EVERY part from EVERY datsun it was takin from keeps the spirit living on in another datsun, my truck has the souls of many datuns!
