NWOleman
So i had a pair of SJ carbs ithink is what the guy called them given to me with the intake manifold and a L20 head i think. He said they were Jaguar carbs and worked great when tuned properly. Has anybody ran these and do they work good, what kinda power gain is there? Also how do i tell if the head is a L20, the cam has 20 b stamped on it. Thanks NWOleman Quote Link to comment
nismopu
I dont think your gonna be able to lean em out enough for a four cylinder but I dont have much experience with them fuel bukakes!(carburators). peace. Quote Link to comment
NWOleman
My bad. They are SU carbs. The cam is a crower with U9002 stamped on the end and U20 cast between the lobes. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
U20 is a Nissan casting Do you think this a is a regrind cam? the SUs Should be able to handle this cam. IF ITS WORTH A SHIT!!!!!! Most I have seen are worn out junk but if they are good work very well. But most are wore out!!!!!!!!!! SUs are a Hitachi clone of the British SUs. Some are also pulled off the older Volvos read this http://www.sportsimports.ca/archive/technicaltips/att06.htm Quote Link to comment
LenRobertson
Your head will have a casting number on the right front side. This page will tell you which head you have: http://www.the620.com/html/tech/head_ID_2.htm They will all fit an L20B block, but some have larger ports or valves, so are considered "better". Look for a casting number on the manifold the carbs came with. "Japan 220" is found on a lot of them. I don't know if the manifold/carbs were bolted to the head when you got it. If not, see if the ports and bolt holes line up so it will bolt on. Wiggle the throttle shaft where it goes into the side of the carb body. There isn't supposed to be any play here. The body can be bored out and bushings installed to tighten up the fit, but it's not a DIY job and kind of pricey to have done. If the shafts are tight in your carbs, that's great. datsunaholic
U20 is a standard Nissan casting L16 cam, though it was used on later engines as the base cam casting (any differences were in the grind, not the casting). Quote Link to comment
NWOleman
The head has 219 cast in it on the sparkplug side. Its kinda toward the front and down towards the bottom, is that the good one to have? Quote Link to comment

You can mix and match the available needles and jets, to get over 300 different combinations. That's tune-ability. If the SUs, manifold and head are together, then it's probably already set up and or close to running already. Quote Link to comment
