made some oem stlye mud flaps

Recommended Posts

i've been wanting to do this seeing that it's super easy. the only hard part is finding a nice flat thick piece of rubber. this sheet came out of a dish washer front panel. the color is more of a charcoal than black but i still like it

the original mud flap in the lower right hand corner is only 10 3/4 inch long. very small??? the other one i had i think was home made so the i made 2 sets 10 3/4 and 15 inches.

the originals were stapled or rivited on. i'll post another pic when i mount them.

Those are really clean...damm near stock too. Kool that they came out of a dishwaher

Did you use the factory metal piece to install them ?

Im running the same flaps on my 620 & they have "Datsun" on them..kinda raised up a bit. Oh &....they dont serve much purpose on mine

i could be wrong but i think the stock ones were stapled to the truck. this one did have some metal bracket pieces that were fairly thick. i did reuse them. i could have sworn they were supposed to be closer to the tire though. time to look at the stock owners manual pic.

i like the 620 flaps. next time i see some decent ones in the yard i'm gonna get them.

Ok..on the 620's theres 2 cross braces that go under the bed behind the tires. I 1st had my mudflaps mounted to the brace closest to the tire & the wind would flip it upside down & they would rub against the tires. I moved them back & theyre fine. All of the Datsun truck's ive seen with flaps have that metal piece attached to the bed braces & they have 6 small "tabs" that the flaps slide over & then the tabs bend over & secure the flap.

I want mud flaps on my 521(s) too.  I just ordered this from Global Trucker for about 30 bucks (including tax, shipping):

it measures 24 x 30 inches and I figure I can actually make a set of four mud flaps from this.
