makya
I've got a spare motor to build for the 4x, and since it is a 75 no smog in Ca.;) I'd like to build it as simple as possible, which means as few vacuum lines as I can, mechanical choke. I may even run an electric brake booster( I've seen some nice ones out now) so I don't have to run a vacuum booster on it. I'm assuming an early (75) L20 motor, but what wasn't necessary on these? banzai510(hainz)
get a L16 intake maifold(match port to the head) Hog it out using a SSS gasket or a Felpro gasket Get a short tube header(square port header) from TOP END PERFORMANCE I assume its a squareport exhaust head? rig a hose from crank case up to the lower intake and thats it your done!!!!!! makya
I actually have that picture saved.;) thanks. what's the easiest carb to run, weber with a mechanical? I'm assuming that's what's in the pic. but I haven't had one of those in, uh*think*carry the 2, plus five...*think* 'bout 14 years. nevermind, I just saw atomchurch's thread I'll ask there. Pacific coast Datsun
Webers are on E bay all the time or you can buy them new............ http://www.racetep.com/weber.html I paid $100 for a used 32/36 & have a parts 32/36 in the yard. If you dont want to run the header the L 16 ex. manifold is clean & doesnt have those smog tubes on it.... Quote Link to comment
makya
I think I'll run an L16 manifold, I think it would look noice smoothed and powdercoated. Quote Link to comment
Z-train
Datsun manifolds(exhaust) are better engineered than you think.HP increase with a header is not as much as you'd think. And since you live in that gestapo controlled state,i would use the stock manifold with plugs in the A.I.R. ports just in case.Follow it with a 2.25 inch pipe in a muffler that won't drive you nuts and go. Blast the manifold and use Eastwoods manifold paint and it'll look factory new. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Like stated above the exhaust manifolds are GREAT However you need to find a apropreate Y pipe for your application If you have a L16 510 Y pipe or a Datsun 521 truck they will be shaped different. The Truck routes different due to the torsion bar or have to have one made. I only suggest the Shorttube header is it fits in all the car trucks (due to the short tube design) But YOu might have to spend money to get it powder coated which when your done put u up in the 200$ range. as for the HP gains its usaully in ones own mind. Racsnjasn made his own Y pipe(suggest at least 2in collector at the END as the stock one is small) Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
Correct Hainz. I got one from the yard awhile back, used a hacksaw to remove it. A few months ago a good friend here on the forum made me one for my 521 as a replacement..... Quote Link to comment
dat620
pace setter exhaust here in phx az sells headers for 510, 620's they are on web site http://www.pacesetterexhaust.com, headers are about 125.00-175.00 ck em out:cool: Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Pac Coast datsun Man thats a nice part!!!!!!!!!!Nice welds should make more!!!!!!!! dats620 You sure Pacesetter still make headers for a 510 and other datsuns?? I dont see a listing for 510s/620s ect and have never really heard their name in the Datsun world for a long time. Be nice to find some round port headers for the later L20s. Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
TY Hainz but i didnt make the flange but the person who did may make more if the need is there. In my case my stock flange is warped. I have a chrome pacesetter header meant for a Z-24 head, wonder how close it is to an L head, ill have to look @ the holes on the header to make sure. I agree, having wasted the money on one for my late 521, not to mention the nightmare installation, and I didn't get the 10to 15 hp I expected. Quote Link to comment
Guest DatsuNoob
Hey hainz, that yellow L motor's still not done yet? When are you gonna quit farting around and do something with it? :D Looks good though. Quote Link to comment
hang_510
^ he cant finish it, he has to keep posting fix-pix for everyone  Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I did finish the motor years ago and installed in my my truck. I pulled the motor thinking I had cracked the head after runining it hard(after 2 head changes Then discovered the front cover was bad. I was cheap and used the old antifreeze which ruined the front cover. a tiny pin hole which water went into the oil. CAVITATION!!!!!!! Quote Link to comment
