Short or Long struts?

I was looking at Suspension Techniques Springs and they list for the 510 two different part numbers for short or long struts.

How do you know which ones you have? By the year?

buy the springs for the long strut. no matter what strut length you have.

 

The long strut springs they list will be shorter. Thats what you want and you still might have to cut a 1/2 a spring off to get the look you want.

photo shows weld at spring perch to bottom of the tube this is a long strut which is the most common 11.5in

there are 11 and 10.5 inch(68/69)

I have this on our wagon.

It's 10.5 in length.

It needs a rebuild and I think Nissan used Koni's for the inserts.

Have not not taken it out yet.

go coilover its worth the money my first 510 had those springs and I could never get it to sit even side to side

Datsun made 3 lengths of strut for our P510's. Like Hainz says, measuring from the weld on the bottom of the spring perch to the bottom of the strut tube the 67-69 had a 10

I have the old Koni orange retraction adjustable inserts and I LOVE them.

Yah, but I'm cheap and the re oiled dampers are great. I think I'd drop to 25W or so with the 200lb springs, but, I need to find some softer rear shocks first.

Just pick up some chicks to counter balance the spring stiffness, thats what Hainz does. He likes them BIG so it only takes on chick :D
