RacnJsn95
I was told that all 73 510s were 2 doors, and there were no 4 doors. Having never seen a 73 510 in person, and all the 73 510 pictures I've seen are 2 doors. Just came across this craigslist ad for a 73 4 door.. http://medford.craigslist.org/car/475330047.html So was whoever informed me that all 73s were 2 doors wrong? Right? Or do you think the guy selling this car may be mistaken or something? Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
I'm betting he's wrong, but pics would answer it. '73s have alot of little different things on them. Besides, it was very common for cars back then to be titled as the year sold, not the year made. This was probably a late '72 4dr that sat on the dealer lot too long and then when it was sold in '73 it was titled as a '73. Quote Link to comment
RacnJsn95
I also heard the 73 was the first and only year to get the rear window defroster for that body style. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
I also heard the 73 was the first and only year to get the rear window defroster for that body style. In the US only. It was available in Canada much earlier. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Ask the guy for pics!!! :D Quote Link to comment
RacnJsn95
I asked him for pics last time he ran the ad, and he never gave me any. I dont want to buy the car(s), so I dont want to drive for 45 min to go look at them in person... Maybe all US 73s were 2 door? Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Maybe all US 73s were 2 door? That's more likely. But I also think they were only sold as '73s in the US. Remember in Japan the 610 came out in late '72. Also all of the '73s were reputedly built in just one month (Oct/Nov '72). Weird that they did all that work to update the car to pass '73 crash standards then ditched the car... :P Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Then again, maybe it didn't pass the '73 crash standards after all??? The world may never know... Quote Link to comment
hang_510
no 4drs or wagons were produced as a 73 model. they were def sold in 73. my wagon, prod date 4/72(on plaque) wasnt sold until 1/73 on original bill of sale. participate here- http://www.the510realm.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=4901&highlight=production+date Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I had a Canadian '68 4 door and was told that Canada never got '68 2 doors. I think they were just rare, you know, like rocking horse shit.:D Quote Link to comment

datsunaholic
Crash standards (MVSS-NHTSA) and emissions standards (EPA) are 2 different things, in relation to model year, at least up to the mid 70s. They only had to meet crash standards in effect for the Date of Manufacture. Emissions standards had to be met based on the model year. Quote Link to comment
Jason
I helped part out a '69 wagon with the rear window defrost this year. Kinda nice actually. I personally have only seen a build/engine plaque for January of 1973 with the L16 though I have heard of April 1973 2 door 510's that had a engine plaque with an L18 stamped on it. Lot's of stuff wasn't documented back then I guess. Quote Link to comment
