Mattndew76
http://www.optimumg.com/docs/SteeringGeometry.pdf I am wanting to machine some arms so the tie rod doesnt rub against the rim/tire on the car, but retain the same Ackermann steering angles. Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
Thought you were giving up machining ? Quote Link to comment
Dime Dave
Matt, To get more tie rod end to wheel clearance, it sounds like you need to incorporate an offset in the RCA riser like the drift guys use to create negative camber (and then use adjustable LCA's to shorten the arm length back to correct the camber setting). This will effectively decrease kingpin inclination and increase the scrub radius. The ill effect of added scrub radius is it gives more kickback on the steering wheel over pavement changes and rough road surfaces. Most racecar designs strive for a zero scrub radius to lessen these unwanted inputs. I've seen racecars with mega negative offset wheels become undrivable because of a huge scrub radius. The kickback on the steering was so great the front end would "shimmy" so bad the only way to stop it was to all but stop the car. Think of it as the automotive version of a motorcycle tank slapper. 1 Quote Link to comment
Mattndew76
Thought you were giving up machining ? No im giving up selling single parts to people. If its a production order of 30 RCA's im good to go. I lose my metaphoric ass when I do 1 part. 1 Quote Link to comment
Mattndew76
Yeah i'm not looking for car slapper steering. I want to move the steering arm tie rod mount 12.7mm inward. Quote Link to comment
Mattndew76
This is an option too. http://www.pro-touring.com/threads/111963-Front-Suspension-amp-Steering-Geometry-for-Track-Performance/page4 Quote Link to comment
