Fuel Tank Hoses?

fisch

Recommended Posts

The little hoses on my 521 tank shouldn't be too hard to replace. They look like basic fuel line. (Though the braided one might.)

But what about the big ass filler hose? I see alot of makes (chevy, etc) have specifically shaped hoses.

Are there generic ones that work?

Looked ar rock auto, and all they had under 'fuel' was something called a pre heater hose. What is that? It looks like heater duct.

Thanks!

If it's dried & worn out & cant find a stock replacement maybe a large radiator hose will work ! ? Wierd Datsun thing here...on my 69 L 521 it has a metal gas filler neck instead of a rubber/plastic one  Plus it's on the pass. side because of the J-13 & exhaust running down the dr. side.

My filler neck is metal too. The hose is a wider diameter than the radiator hose at 2 1/4 on the inside. About 17 1/2" long.

I had to cut the old hose off to get the tank out so I have to find a replacement!

There are two very, very slight bends on the ends of the filler tube, Nothing as complex as some of the other makes I've seen. So hopefully something will work. Or i can eyeball something from another import truck that might fit.

Thought I'd check with the gurus here first!

Or a Tractor/Truck supply. In portland theres a shop that does JUST rubber stuff, you can get all kinds of great stuff.

I've also heard of getting big bulk fuel hose at NAPA, a buddy did this for the filler on his 510 (gas door to fuel cell)

Phew, y'all are making me feel there is hope. I've been surfing all day for a filler hose with zero luck. Thought about trying a mazda, but they are like $100 which is a lot for a high risk it won't fit.

hi, I have some great hi tech heat shrink, that I have used to fix old fuel filler hoses....it is chemical impervious and high heat proof material...I can get more and I think it was about $25.00 for a long enough piece to go over.

Hint....probably not really smart to use the hair dryer or another heat source while still close to the gas tank....I know you guys are WAY way smarter than that...but I have seem dumber things done than that. I have seen one guy weld next to a full gas tank...seems he didn't want to live long.

Got to fix my fuel hose too....way easier than trying to find a match. Tana

I got some 2" id fuel hose from NAPA for $13 per foot. The OEM hose was a shaped one to fit the slight bend but the NAPA hose was tough enough to bend and not kink.

At half the price and Napa stores everywhere, seems easier and safer to replace an old, rotting fuel line than dress it up.

i just put my filler hose on a couple hours ago after swapping a bed. mine was harder than a rock too. all i did was stick it next to the fire place, rotating it and stepping on it to get it to move again. i put some lithium grease on the inside lip and it popped right on.went to the gas station and filled her up with no leaks. i left the top pipe on so i only had to remove the three screws and leave the hose connected to the top. a straight hose will do cause the angle is so minor. wear gloves those damn bed edges are sharp when trying to wiggle that baby into place. making the old hose pliable again if only for a few minutes insures a nice tight fit when you tighten that hose clamp back down. let us know if you go with the napa hose or any other. good luck!!

I was at napa yesterday, and they do carry the right sized (diameter) hose, but were out of stock. Some of their hose has a corrugation to it, which might make for easier bends.

Great photo's figbuck! That 620 tank looks alot different than the 521. Your metal filler neck is huge! How long was your rubber hose? The 521 is like 17" w/ a slight bend on each end.

My tank is at the radiator guys and I should have it in a couple weeks. I will indeed let y'all know what I do! I hear there is an import parts place a couple miles from me that should have some of that braided overflow hose. I will be curious what else they have!

Another way is to soak the hose in hot water to make 'em more pliable.

When I start working on an engine I'm planning on heading down to a local shop here called Greenline Hose And Fitting... they do everything from fuel lines to hydraulic lines to marine hoses to food transfer to...

Well, let's just say they do everything... only thing is, it's not always too cheap... But, great place for finding hoses that you can't find anywhere else.

Hey guys, I finally get my tank fixed, rust proofed and painted. And here is a follow up on the filler hose.

Indeed I got the napa generic hose and it was pretty simple to get it on with no kinks. Lucky on these 521's the rubber hose is a pretty straight shot. I haven't tried to put gas in there yet so I am unsure about leaks.

Now where I am having trouble is finding an overflow hose to go from the tank back up to the neck. Finding 5/8 to 3/4 inch fuel rated hose ain't as easy as running to auto zone or advanced auto parts. Thanks to mike I have contacted http://www.oilfilterserviceco.com/

and I am waiting to hear back a price. But I am wondering if y'all have any other solutions for this pesky hose?

That is too funny. I was under my 521 a couple days ago with a cut piece of inner tube and some zip ties to remedy it for now. Like Kizz said previously, he was talking about my dads car. It has a fuel cell and so he put the NAPA hose in and it worked good, now I have too as well..

Looked up tractor supply and found this on line. If they are open tomorrow I might have to check it out as an overflow hose replacement, but I sure don't need 14 feet!

The stock overflow didn't seem to be anything special.....but then again, there's no guarantees that what's on our rigs is the original.

It might not hurt to look up the factory part and then plug it into the search at nissanparts.cc and see...you never know :)

$30 for 14'....that's not that bad. Once you get the correct size figured out, cut up and ebay the rest at $10ea :) ...hhhmm...I have three rigs to use it on...that would be $30....I guess I'll buy my own :)
