I was shown by a friend what setting to put the multimeter on to test the Alternator & got a reading off the old one.
If this makes a diffetence thd Alt I swapped on.was on the boat & its a 60 amp output.

If it is a 60 amp output then it has a built in regulator.  Is your wiring setup for an alternator with an internal regulator?

The 74 620 has an external regulator, so if the wiring is stock the alt will need jumper wires at the regular plug or need to be wired properly.

Years ago I rewired it to accept an internally regulated Alternator.

Mark take your 2 alternators down to an auto parts store and have them test the 2 alternators.

I'll take the one I removed to get tested in the 620 & have the one I swapped in tested too.

Hopefully they will both test good.  Wiring gremlins are a pain in the ass.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Mark!

So do I my friend. I've been running it once a week for about 15 mins in the driveway with the lights on...it doesn't die & they do look brighter. I know that means nothing until they're tested.
My biggest ? is how can something go bad or a wire short out when the truck literally hardly ever moves LOL

Is there mice, rats, squirrels in your area.  Rodents cause a lot of vehicle damage across the world.

Ok update..as I was warming up the 620'earlier I decided to remove the positive cable from the battery & when I did the motor died..that tells me this Alternator is bad. I'll still have both tested to make sure & then either have the 60'amp unit rebuilt or purchase a new one.

I decided to install a new 50 amp Alternator today.
I'm using a 81 510 internally regulated unit.
