I did what Icehouse did - here's a couple photos of the finished mount. You can see where a chunk was cut out of the middle, and a plate welded in allowing the forward section to sit lower. Too low, as you can see by the washers stacked between the mount and transmission. Measure twice, cut once!

Those measurements are probably pretty close to mine - I don't think I cut 3" out, though I could measure it. You can see mine is over 3/4" lower, but remember that it's too low - there are 3 washers in there. I had to raise it because the u-joint was hitting the crossmember - when I took it off the jack stands and pushed it down the driveway... clunkclunkclunkclunkclunkclunk. Dammit!

 

Be sure to slot the holes on the upper, u-shaped section front to rear - you won't have to be as precise lengthwise that way.
