slodat Posted February 7, 2007 Report Share Posted February 7, 2007 This is a story about a dude who is not "from here". I'm from a place 1800 miles away. I don't have the pals from growing up, college, etc that a person does when they are from here. I don't have family around either. So, my friends a especially important to me. I have always loved the old Dattos. I bought my first one a year ago. In that year I went to the events, bbqs, shows, Shasta, Canby, etc. I'm active in my local Datto club. Fuck, I'm the damn VP somehow. Anyway, along the way I've made some pretty good friends. On the way home from work one night, after a pretty long day, I had a tire blow out on my 620. I sent an email to one such friend asking if he was still interested in giving me a set of steel rims and tires he had once offered. He did one better, at 5am, he dropped off a pair of loaner wheels/tires on my porch so I would be able to drive the truck to his house that evening. When I arrived he had mounted the tires himself in the garage and let me use a jack to mount them then and there. That's some seriously wonderful stuff right there. Another Datto friend always seems to pop up at the right time with a phone call, caravan to Shasta, sharing in the rent of room at Shasta that I couldn't quite afford, holding onto an engine until I was able to pick it up.. You get the idea. Shit one day he told me about some parts I may want that were in a Pull a Part near him. Then he went and pulled them for me. So, here's to my Datto buddies. Thank you! I have ran into great people on here and a few other sites since I started getting involved with the whole Forum thing a couple of years ago... They have always been willing to help and some have gone out of their way to help out with a needed part at just the right time! (Thanks Hainz, MKlotz, Icehouse, Tdaaj, Bre620, Glengeman, Datsunfish and a few others, just to name a few!) Even before I found NWDE and a few other forums, every Datto guy I met was helpful... but honestly, in 10 years, I've only been ripped off twice...not bad really...darned ebay/DQ crooks! but this is what it's all about...helping each other to make the ride better! I'd like to know what kind of idiot drops off rims/tires at 5am!!!! :) Just more proof that you don't have to be too bright to be me!!! Seriously....Thanks!! Glad to know it was appreciated! I still try to help my buddies out....even when I'm pissed off at the world and depressed! Not sure why it hit me so hard this year, but it's passed now. Thanks for putting up with it!! gotta get back to work now.....working my butt off trying to get the L320 ready for a new home! Mr. "I can't walk in the snow" is buying it for his wife, so I have to have it ready by saturday. She calls, he falls....he's in a cast, but that's in the past...so he's buying her a toy to fill her with joy :) .....there must be some kinda fumes in the shop!!!
