72240z
They seem to rock one on a regular basis in the upcoming HBO series based on the novel series "The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency". I hope they do some car chases or something cool. To me it seems rare to see that bad ass in action. Here is part one of ep one from the bbc, you see the main character driving the ute at about 4:10. <--- which was pulled, this clip is now just her breaking down in it lol. ggzilla
Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency is set in Botswana, neighboring South Africa. So they probably call it a bakkie. Where can I see the video clip or still? Quote Link to comment
72240z
Ya that's where it takes place, is that what they call it? Cool lol. The clip up top that shows it works fine still. The 1st one was part of an ep I guess they will start allowing it after the usa premier. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Thanks, I watched the clip. Here's another Botswana Datsun 1200/1400 'bakkie': Canopies are still hot in southern Africa. They sell like a dozen types for Datsun 1200 bakkie. Quote Link to comment
72240z
Ughhhh I want a 1200 ute so damn bad. It's not fair...... Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Should I get a Canopy? Now I see this one has the raised roof. It is a 1400. Quote Link to comment

My mantra on caps has always been get one for when you need it but don't leave it on all the time. I think it's especially true with a pretty ute like that, it has such nice lines stock, I personally couldn't stand to see it with a cap all the time. Plus the cap is so small its much easier to get on/off and store. As far as caps go though I actually don't think it looks bad. Hard to tell though now since you brought it to my attention the roof is higher. With a lower roof it may look a little more bulbous. Do they make one without that camel hump? That matches the roof level I mean. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Here's some stills from the Ladie's No. 1 Detective Agency: Been there, done that Hmmm... mine was on the hook last summer too, only it was raining This one looks like a 1200 bakkie (low roof, with 1978-1987 grille) Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
I want a 1200 ute so damn bad 1400s are less expensive: 65,900 ZAR = 6,992 USD Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
In the TV series about the lady detective they call it a 'van'. Quote Link to comment
njoz1200ute
I like how the South African utes have lights inside the rear bumpers. Much better than the plain rubber ones. And am I seeing things or do they have a smaller rear window than the aussie utes? I swear mine is bigger. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
I think those are rear reflectors? There are two sizes of rear window. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
It seems the rear window size is: * Large - normal roof 1400 + all 1200 * Small - raised roof 1400 Quote Link to comment
njoz1200ute
Wow that's cool, never knew that! Quote Link to comment
