wire harness for tail lights???

Hi--I am new here and have a question...I have a 1980 Datsun PU which I am slowly putting the original parts back on. I have a pair of the original tailights, but think I need a wiring harness to hook the lights into to get them set up properly?? The lights themselves have a 3 prong plug, and the tailights that have just been wired on there are attached with 4 single wires. Does anyone know a source for the rest of what I need to hook them up???? Thank you in advance!! Roslynn

your best bet is to invest in a manual for the truck..this will give you a wiring diagram..along with answering any other related questions you may run into...the diagram is usually a real pain in the rear to read, but, if you take your time you can trace all the wires needed for your project..and Datsun did a real good job of color coding them as well...good luck..

Very generally there is a short harness that connects to both tail lights and license plate lights through a six plug connector to the main harness that runs along the frame and up through the floor of the cab. I have a wire diagram for the '80 through '83 and all the wires are the same color and location although the ends at the lights may be different. Try a wrecking yard.

bluetruck, dan here good to see you signed up. if your pigtail wiring is original you may be able to have someone unravel what has been done and use a test light to put it all back together the right way. although as the other posters have mentioned it easier to just replace the whole pigtails that have the original sockets on the end with used replacements from pull-a-part. i will be going out to pull-a-part soon and will let you know what they have. calling them and asking about there inventory isn't always if ever accurate. of coarse any yard would work but pull-a-part has the best prices.:) good luck.

The '79 and '80 are different for sure. The '79 and earlier combine the turn signal and brake light. There is a switch in the steering column that disconnects the brake power and connects the flasher to that side. The 720 trucks had a separate turn signal bulb.
