#621072 Fisch Art- Sneaks datsun illustrations into kidsbooks!

Posted by fisch on 27 January 2012 - 10:39 AM

Thought you guys would appreciate this. Most of you know I am an illustrator who does kids books, novels that sort of thing. So I finished two books over the last few months and snuck some Datsun art in there!

In this book. I did 75 silhouettes, and the author never wrote what type of car it was so... mua ha ha. (And I gave it a Ratsun Badge. Represent!)

Posted Image

Here is the rest of the book.
Posted Image

This one is a children's book and is a sequel to one I did that came out last year. This is my 510! (Though I had to get creative with the proportions to make the characters big enough!)

So, even when I am not on Ratsun, I am on Ratsun.

For my 20,000th post I just want to thank all ratsun members for making this the greatest forum, certainly the greatest Datsun forum ever. Over a half million posts and 8,800 members, and in only 4 short years! Incredible! Jeff, did you ever expect such a thing when you started this? Thanks for a place to shoot the shit about our favorite subject.

jefe de jefes ran a add for a electronic dist for a good deal... I wanna take a second and let you know about my experience.  I inquired about the dist and got a quick response and set up a transaction and it arrived with in a few days.  I am pretty mechanical and built lots of trucks and jet boats and quads so i am pretty savy but had never had a electronic dist swap under my belt.  So I had a few questions.  I sent jefe de jefes a message and had a answer in under 15 minutes.  Even when I emailed him several more times with simple questions i always heard back with in 15 minutes or less(Even while on a road trip he responded and let me know i would have a answer quickly...) he proivided pics, links, info, more links more pics and about 10 messages exchanged later I was up running and running better than ever... I wanted to take a second to thank him personally and give him and ratsun a ringing endorsement..he went above and beyond to help me out and answer all my stupid and mundane questions that were probably simple to him but helped me out immensely.  He walked me through several silly probelmes with never a sarcastic remark or blow off.  he is a valuable member to ratsun and if you ever have a transaction with him be assured u get a quality part and quality help when you stumped.  I also wanna say this is why i only use ratsun,  no realm or olddatsuns for me...ratsun and its members have helped me on my 521 and I appreciate everyone on here so thanks  and thanks for a great sight populated with great people...(expcpet that wierdo in canada with all the snow and mercedes...)  On to the short tail 5sp...with right up to follow...also helping a friend on his 521 and will post pics of hiss sandblasted sheet metal and progress...

Thanks bro. Positive rep for you. It brings me great pleasure seeing these old vehicles on the road. A happy owner is a plus. Many times people get discouraged when their rides aren't working "properly". Then vehicles get neglected or abandoned. Just about everything I know that pertains to datsuns , I picked up here. Ratsun!
Hainz's video helped immensely. Datzenmike's knowledge and mklotz's r&d are valuable as well. The list goes on and on. There's good folks here and I'm proud to be part of this community. Even with the weirdos! :D

Thanks everyone, Im doin better and hope to be out of the ICU in a week or so!  I pretty much had complete and total liver, kidney and heart failure. My numbers were so bad that my eyes were turning yellow, and i was so weak I couldnt hardly stand or walk.  Most everything is back to normal, atleast normal enough to concentrate on my heart(at %10 working capacity)

The doctors say that I have a awsome chance of being off the machines and live a full life without transplants!

Thank you all again for the thoughts, prayers, and support. I do have obligations pending with a couple of you, have no fear that they will be taken care of.  And sorry for the delay!

#618804 Ramblings of an old guy

Posted by hitch on 24 January 2012 - 06:36 AM

I love reading the threads on Ratsun.  Some people tear into their car or truck and completely change everything to their taste.  People like me, struggle to change up a very stock version.  I for some reason, struggle with changes, seems I've seen every fad and don't want to follow.  Speaking in small foreign car terms. The 70's was the road race era, stripes, alloys, air dams and small tastefull wings.  The 80's was slam everything and put god awful body kits on cars and trucks.  The 90's sprung the giant wings and cool boys painting the brake drums on their econo boxes.  The 00's is full of engine swaps with loud fart can mufflers.  Guess I'm still caught in the 70's.  I like the way cars looked when I 1st started driving.  I still do, I want it to start, run and drive every time I turn the key.  Those of you just starting your life as an automotive enthusiast, enjoy this time.  My gut tells me that with fuel and insurance getting to a new high.  Things are going to change rapidly.  I think "fish" stated in another thread, about how the value of a clean Datsun will go up in the next 20 years.  I'm feeling like today is nearly the top of value for an enthusiast.  The clean cars of the future will be in non driven collections.  Parts are still available, some areas still have daily drivers and junk yard parts cars.  I was just told by a vendor that steel is going up dramatically, once again, the salvage yards will crush everything in sight.  So enjoy your ride, treat it like it is special.  I went to the chain auto parts store over the weekend.  I drove the 79 woody, things were slow and three guys standing at the counter were discussing my car as I pulled up.  Three generations of men. A kid (20 ish) guy in his 30's and a guy about my age 50's.  The oldest guy new better than to say anything, the other two were anxious to get the answer out of me.  "Is that a Dodge?" the 20 yr old asked.  "What made you think it was a Dodge?"  "Its got a D on it" pointed to the grill.  I looked at the mature guy and we just laughed.  At that point I just said, "I'm not going to tell you."  He goes out and looks it over, comes back in and asks the 30 something "who makes a Datsun?"  He looks at the 50 yr old and we both just smile.  I do consider this the end of an era, so enjoy your cars.  Thinking about value and the money it takes.  My Ratsun friends are trying to make their way in the world on jobs that truly do not pay enough.  We as HS kids in the 70's were making $3-$5 per hour, That would have to be close to $15 bucks an hour these days.  I had money to burn and bought cars and tons of stuff back in the day.  I can remember gas below $0.25 a gallon, all we did was cruise every Friday and Saturday.  I feel like things were better and we really enjoyed simple things and had time to enjoy them.  My wish is that my Ratsun friends enjoy their cars as much as I've enjoyed mine.

#609343 You know you own a Datsun when.............

Posted by DRIVEN on 10 January 2012 - 02:50 PM

...your parts car has a parts car.
...you know other Datsun owners by their forum name but not their actual name.
..."I was in a Datsun" is a legal defense against speeding tickets.
...your boss actually believes "My car broke down" when you're late.
...your trunk tools are both metric and SAE.
...you can precisely recite the make, model and year of every non-original part on your car (at least 20) but can't remember your kid's birthday or your anniversary.

#496666 Canby 2011 Video

Posted by brodster on 19 June 2011 - 02:18 PM

First off my apologies if I didn't get you in the video.  I am still learning the Ratsun people by face.  With that said, here is some footage I compiled over the Canby weekend.  In hindsight, I wish I would have captured more highlights, more time lapse footie (didn't get the whole engine swap, etc.) and more of the ending ceremony.  Plus I was bummed there was crap on my camera lens on Sunday.  Regardless, there is some good footage, and I had fun making the video.  Next year I will be more prepared and thorough.  So enjoy!Posted Image

Also,  some of us were curious how many Ratsun members were actually at Canby.  Seemed to be the dominate force.  So please answer the poll if you get a chance.

#460503 How To create an effective 4 sale AD

Posted by DatDoug on 15 April 2011 - 07:53 PM

I have bought & sold many rigs in my time.  I want to share with you all what I feel is a good template for a successful "4 Sale" Ad.

First of all the "Title"  should state exactly what you are selling while being brief.  The Bones of it.

Ex.  195/75/14 Tires with like new tread $100

Ex.  69 Datsun 510 WagOOn  $2900

Ex.  15 x 6 Chrome pathfinder rims 6 lug.  $100

Now for the ad itself.  This should also be bfief, but still give the potential buyer a good idea of what they are getting.  We dont need to hear about your life story  Stick to the item 4 sale :P

Ex.  This is a 79 Datsun King Cab truck with a L20b & 5 speed tranny.  Has new weber 32/36 & runs like a top.  Just put in a new clutch kit & tranny shifts smooth.  Tires are good.  Brakes are good.  Interior is clean with stock tach, nice stereo, & center console.  Body is str8 with minimum rust & original paint.  $2500 CASH (Clear Title) Call 555-123-5555  for more info or to set up a time to see truck.

This ad tells the viewer about the drivetrain, interior & body.  It lets them know that it runs & drives & is a clean mostly stock truck.
DONT PUT YOUR ADDRESS IN THE AD.  You dont want every Tom Dick & Kari knowing where u live & that you have a priceless Datsun on hand.

I likem to leave my phone #.  It gives the viewer a couple of ways to reach me.

Now for the most important part of your ad.  PICS  Like the saying goes, "A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS"  Now on Craigslist you get 4 views in your basic ad.  I have seen people with more but I dont know how they do it.  When im looking for a vehicle I like to see pics of all sides of the rig, interior shot, & engine shot.

Ex.
Posted Image

Posted Image

This shot shows the rear & the passenger side @ the same time
Posted Image

This shot shows both the drivers side & the front
Posted Image

If I am selling rims or tires I make sure to let the viewer know what size they are.  What lug pattern & what they will fit.

Ex.  15x8 Chevy ralleys with 205-60-15 tires with good tread.  Came off my Datsun but will fit many other 6- lug 5.5" pattern vehicles  Mazda, Chevy, GMC, Nissan, Toyota 4x4, Ford Courier, Isuzu, Dodge D50 & others.

This automaticallyn includes "9"  brands of cars in your ad for those that use "search" words (key words)

Pics for tires & rims should show sidewall & a good shot od tread.  People like to see the tread :D

Ex.

There are more things that can be covered but this is a good basic beginning for a successful ad.  Good luck & I hope this helps :D
